So do you need to make changes in the IT environment? Change management is a term that can be applied to any business area - all departments of a company undergo a series of influential changes every few years. The key to success is to understand how to manage a series of changes, or to hire people who know how to perform this for your organization.

In the IT industry, change management refers to how your IT department or provider allows your infrastructure to continue serving your employees and customers when changes occur. Here are some common examples of changes and how reliable IT providers manage them:

Your system needs patches, updates or other routine fixes and changes.

This happens in every business environment until the end of time. All systems need to be updated, and as any technician will tell you, risks always exist and problems will arise in the process. Your IT provider or department already knows what problems may arise and what causes delays. They can also mitigate the impact of any problem on your business by updating after work and developing plans for error measures.

Some of your IT employees have quit. You need to hire new employees.

It's a normal part of doing business - people leave their jobs, or maybe even need someone to leave before they can change. Who manages their work during the transition period? Ideally, you can cross-train other staff, but there may not be enough working time on that day. The best way to manage this change is to have the provider take over the employee's task until a new person is found. Communication is critical here because they need to understand how your environment works and what they are responsible for covering. By providing the same services and support as the ideal employee, the provider will manage the position throughout the process of finding new recruits. Who knows? You might even want to keep them instead of finding alternatives!

You have decided to outsource all or part of IT operations.

This change is difficult to manage because it usually means deleting some employees. Locking and taking over a departing member's workstation is usually a necessary part of this process. This change must be carefully managed, and there should be a lot of communication between your business and the new partner company. Your provider will manage this change by considering permissions and security, as well as having an understanding of your environment and how to maintain it. This can be a very smooth and painless process when executed by the correct hosting service provider.

These all sound fairly simple, but if you hire the wrong provider to manage your changes, it can be a long and painful process. If you are considering future changes to the IT environment, please contact us. We have a wealth of experience - from simple equipment upgrades to full acquisitions.
